Los Cabos, Mexico (Monday, March 26, 2012)

Los Cabos has long been the destination of choice among sophisticated travelers, seeking a once-in-a-lifetime vacation experience set against one of Mexico’s most naturally beautiful backdrops. The destination offers travelers a contemporary tourism infrastructure, inclusive of first-class hotels, resorts and tour operators, as well as an impressive safety record; two important factors that were noted inMexican President Felipe Calder?n decision to select Los Cabos as the host city for the 2012 G20 Summit, to be held June 18 – 19, 2012.

Preparations for the more than 7,000 attendees expected to arrive in Los Cabos this June are well underway. In addition to the construction of a new, state-of-the-art Convention Center, other investments have been made throughout the destination in preparation for the event, including a new four-lane highway, which was recently inaugurated by President Calder?n. The highway, stretching from Cabo San Lucas to the capital city of La Paz, is the result of a $250 million dollar investment by the Federal Government in preparation for the G20 Summit, and will ultimately cut travel time between Los Cabos proper and La Paz in half.

Also expected in 2012 is increased airlift to the San Jose del Cabo International Airport (SJD) with the launch of new non-stop flights from Orange County, California (SNA) through AirTran Airways and Chicago, Illinois (ORD) through Frontier Airlines, as well as increased airlift from a number of Canadian airports, including Calgary, Edmonton, Kelowna, Montreal, Regina, Toronto, Vancouver and Winnipeg.

The destination has also received commitments from two world-renowned, luxury brands – The Ritz-Carlton Company and Morgans Hotel Group – for future developments to be completed within the next three years.

Additionally, a number of Los Cabos’ renowned hotels have also recently undergone renovations, including Las Ventanas al Paraiso, which recently completed a major enhancement of it’s world-class spa; the Wyndham Cabo San Lucas Resort, which is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation which features 286 newly refurbished guest rooms in traditional Mexican colors and decor; the Guaycura Boutique Hotel in the charming town of Todos Santos, which officially opened in late 2010 and recently renovated various sections of the hotel, including the addition of a kitchen and grill to the properties rooftop deck; and the Hola Grand Faro Los Cabos, Luxury All-Inclusive Resort, which officially rebranded in 2011 and is in the midst of a major renovation of all guest rooms and suites, three new meeting rooms, a modernized lobby bar and a new family recreation room.
