Cabo San Lucas Delivers Outstanding:
Catch success rate 98.25% Billfish 68.42% Dorado 41.23%. Other 14.04%. Roosterfish 10.53 %, Tuna 30.70%, Wahoo 7.89%

Early in the year, on January 3rd, an angler from Paradise, Arizona, aboard the “LA CHINGONA,” a 46-foot Viking, caught a 525-pound Blue Marlin. Meanwhile, on January 5th, solo angler Marshall Cromer from Oakland, aboard the 48-foot Viking “MY WAY,” caught and released eighteen Striped Marlin. Fishing during the week of January 2 through January 8, 2026, yielded notable successes, including the release of multiple Marlin, impressive catches of Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Dorado, and Roosterfish.
The pleasant weather, with mid-70s temperatures, calm seas, and water in the mid- to high-70s, created an inviting atmosphere that encourages anglers to enjoy optimal fishing conditions.

“YAHOO,” a 42-foot Bertram run by Captain Jose Escamilla and Mate Yahoo, headed for the La Brecha Spot with their clients Carey Kernion, David McBride, Katherine McBride, Richard Kernion, III, Richard Kernion, Jr., and Skyler McLaughlin. There, they caught and released three Striped Marlin in the 90- to 100-pound range on mackerel and one 15-pound Dorado on curry. Then, at Playa el Suspiro, they caught four Roosterfish weighing 15 to 20 pounds on caballito and mackerel.

On the “RUTHLESS,” a 31-foot Bertram, Captain Beto Lira and Mate FCO CECEÑA welcomed avid anglers Barry Blue, Jason Philips, Jessica Philips, John Levey, and Mark Philips from Carlsbad, California. They caught and released two Striped Marlin weighing 90 to 100 pounds, one on a lure and the other on a mackerel, and one 91-pound Yellowfin Tuna outside the Margaritas on a lure.

The Ruddock family, including Jennifer Ruddock, Peyton Ruddock, Rylee Ruddock, Will Ruddock, Weston Ruddock, plus Seth Gibson, from Gonzales, Texas, chartered the “RIPPER,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, with Captain Abel at the helm and Mate Ninja running the cockpit. They caught and released four Striped Marlin weighing 100 to 110 pounds on mackerel, two 20-pound Dorado on mackerel and feathers, and one 40-pound Wahoo, all at the Los Arcos.

Captain Alex and crew members Saul and Beto took the 66-foot Viking, “FRIDAY BANK,” with anglers from Dallas, Texas, to the Los Arcos Spot, where they enjoyed excellent fishing conditions, catching and releasing four Striped Marlin weighing 100 to 110 pounds each and a 15-pound Dorado, especially favorable during early morning hours.

Captain Frank and Mate Arturo met Nicole Hopkins and Peak Taylor from Louisburg, Kansas, and welcomed them aboard the “ADRIANA,“ a 28-foot Uniflite. The eager anglers caught (and released) fifteen Yellowfin Tuna weighing between 8 and 35 pounds on bait when they were 23 miles outside Cerro. The tuna kept coming, and the Kansans were kept busy all day.

Oakland, California resident, Marshall Cromer, caught and released eighteen Striped Marlin weighing between 80 and 120 pounds each while on the “MY WAY,” a 48-foot Viking captained by Arturo, with mates Daniel and Josue. They used mackerel, sardina, and lures at the Los Arcos Spot — an impressive achievement!

Ben Lingenfelter, Brandon Bratt, David Evans, and Robert Thayer from Janesville, California, chartered the “ANDRÉA,” a 28-foot Uniflite, run by Captain Fernando Noyola and Mate Lalo Gonzalez. They released six 80 to 120-pound Striped Marlin on mackerel at the Los Arcos and five 8 to 10-pound Roosterfish at the Rancho San Lucas Site, also on mackerel.

Fishing couldn’t have been better for the four anglers from Richardson, California—Brandon Wiechmann, Howe Wallace, Jenny Wallace, and Stephanie Wiechmann who chartered the “KNOT WORKIN,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge captained by Abraham and mate Cesar. When the crew welcomed the anglers aboard, they headed straight toward the two Lighthouses, and when they were 23 miles out, they caught a variety of fish: three Dorado up to 20 pounds, eight Yellowfin Tuna weighing 18 to 52 pounds, and two Wahoo, one weighing 25 pounds and the other 55 pounds. All were caught in that same area, 23 miles outside the two Lighthouses, on mackerel, lures, and Rapalas.

Captain Orlando and Mate Marcelo run the “REBECCA,” a 31-foot Bertram. They ran to the Los Arcos Spot with their clients, the Shaw family from Washington, D.C., including Adriana Shaw, Crandal Shaw, Darren Shaw, and Tara Shaw. The Shaw’s caught and released eight Striped Marlin on mackerel, weighing from 90 to 120 pounds.

“VALERIE,” a 35-foot Bertram, with Captain Roberto Sandez and Mate Salvador Flores, had guests Janessa Olson, Jennifer Scully, Madison Scully, Robert Scully, and Steve Clack from Orofino, Idaho, aboard when they ran 25 miles to the 180 Spot where they caught and released one 280-pound Blue Marlin on curry.
On the “BILL COLLECTOR II,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, Captain JC Lopez and Mate Erick, JR., were pleased to have Chasity Blanchard and Kyle Spernak, from Anchorage, Alaska, on board. The anglers caught and released a 120-pound Striped Marlin on mackerel and landed ten Yellowfin Tuna weighing 10 to 50 pounds using bait and a Kite at Los Arcos.

They caught and released one 100-pound Striped Marlin, two 15 to 20-pound Dorado, and one 30-pound Wahoo they caught on mackerel at the Los Arcos Spot.

Captain Julio Castro and Mate Super Mario on the “TRACY ANN,” welcomed Angela Dawn Thompson and Steve Darwin from Crystal Beach, Texas, aboard the 31-foot Bertram. They caught and released one 120 to 130-pound Striped Marlin on a mackerel, three 15 to 20-pound Dorado on Ballyhoo, and one 10 to 12-pound Skipjack on a Ballyhoo, all at the Los Arcos
The First Week of 2026 showcased just how exceptional Cabo’s fisheries can be, with anglers experiencing steady action, ideal weather, and an impressive variety of species. From trophy-class Blue Marlin to fast-paced Tuna and Wahoo bites, the consistency and quality of the catches reflected a fishery in peak form. As we move further into the season, conditions remain highly favorable, and all signs point to continued strong fishing ahead.
