Cabo Ignites: Marlin Streak, Tuna Stack, and Roosterfish Strut on the Beaches

Cabo San Lucas Delivers Outstanding: Catch success rate 94.17, Billfish 53.40%, Dorado 28.16%. Other 11.65%. Roosterfish 27.18 %, Tuna 26.21%, Wahoo 4.85%

January has provided optimal conditions for winter anglers throughout Cabo, with cool mornings, calm afternoons, and diverse catches that made for engaging outings. Fishing activity started particularly noteworthy with the  “Coronita,” a 40-foot Cabo Express, run by Captain Manuel R. and Mate Manuel, Jr. with the release of TWENTY-FOUR Striped Marlin at the 95 Spot and the”Caliente,”a 42-foot Cabo Flybridge, captained by Jaime G. and Mate Silverio who matched the 24 marlin with TWENTY-FOUR Yellowfin Tuna 30 miles from the 210 Spot all on Monday.

On Tuesday, the Bill Collector II,”a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, ran to the Finger Bank, where theyreleased TWENTY-FIVE Striped Marlin on caballito and Ballyhoo—with the rest of the week having fewer catches per boat.

"RIPPER," a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge

Flying from Beulah, Michigan, Allen McQuestion, Mike Kramer, and Vance Johnson chartered the “RIPPER,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, with Captain Abel and Mate Ninja. They ran in front of the Cerro, where they caught and released one 120-pound Striped Marlin on a Caballito. They then moved on to the Lighthouse, where the anglers caught two Dorado in the 6 to 8-pound range on feathers. To top it off, at the end of the day, they caught and released six 20 to 30-pound Roosterfish on Caballito at the Los Arcos.

"EL CAZADOR," a 29-foot Black Fin

Captain Carmelo and Mate Luis run the “EL CAZADOR,” a 29-foot Black Fin. They decided to run 30 miles to the 180 Spot, where Pancho Bojórquez caught a 128-pound Striped Marlintwo 18- to 25-pound Dorado, and one 30-pound Yellowfin Tuna, all on lures. He caught enough to feed many local families.

"LA BRISA," a 31-foot Bertram

“LA BRISA,” a 31-foot Bertram captained by Ray Winkler with Mate Jesus Winkler, took Florida guests, Cheryl and Jeff Houser, 28 miles to the 240 Spot. They caught a 25-pound Dorado and ten 20- to 40-pound Yellowfin Tuna on bait, making it a successful trip for the anglers.

KNOT WORKIN," a35-foot Cabo Flybridge

Captain Abraham and Mate Cesar, who run the “KNOT WORKIN,” a35-foot Cabo Flybridge, ran to the San Jaime Bank so that their guests from Eagle, Idaho, including Bob Vanoncini, Kevin Lynch, and Paul Frankos, could catch five Yellowfin Tuna in the 40 to 60-pound range using bait.

"ANDREA," a 28-foot Uniflite

“ANDREA,” a 28-foot Uniflite with Captain Fernando Noyola and Mate Brian, along with anglers Denise Gordon, Melanie Mayer, Roland Gordon, and Tommie Jean Leadbetter from Corpus Christi, Texas, headed toward the Los Arcos area. There, after catching three impressive Roosterfish weighing 10 to 20 pounds, they added to the beauty of the 15-pound Dorado they had caught at Los Arcos and considered their day not only successful but also exciting.

the30-foot Bertram. Then they headed to the Los Arcos Spot, where the group caught and released one 80 to 90-pound Striped Marlin,  
one 15-pound Dorado, and eleven Roosterfish weighing between 4 and 5 pounds, all released on caballito, and one 48-pound Wahoo they caught on a Rapala.

 "CORONITA," a 40-foot Cabo Express,

Vince Nardone and William Kimmerle, from Stow, Ohio, chartered the “CORONITA,” a 40-foot Cabo Express, with Captain Manuel R. and Mate Manuel, Jr. They hit the jackpot when they caught and released TWENTY-FOUR Striped Marlin weighing between 90 and 140 pounds on mackerel and one 12-pound Dorado, also on mackerel, all at the 95 Spot.

On the “CALIENTE,” a 42-foot Cabo Flybridge, captained by Jaime G. and Mate Silverio were pleased that their anglers from Eastvale, California,  Angel Gurrero, Boris Zeissig II, Boris Zeissig III, Brad Keller, Brian Keller, Cliff Chu, Jacob Keller, and Manuel Ramos, matched the 24 marlin with TWENTY-FOUR Yellowfin Tuna in the 30 to 40-pound range on bait, 30 miles from the 210 Spot.

Captain Juan Carlos and his mate, Cuate, who run the BILL COLLECTOR II,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, took Prineville, Oregon, residents David Puckett, Kathy Puckett, Lorraine Puckett, Mark Puckett, Mason Puckett, and Shelly Puckett to the Finger Bank, where they released TWENTY-FIVE 100 to 120-pound Striped Marlin on caballito and Ballyhoo, exceeding the 24 Striped Marlin caught by the Coronita,” the day before.

"RUTHLESS," a 31-foot Bertram

“RUTHLESS,” a 31-foot Bertram, with Captain Beto Lira at the helm and Mate FCO CECEÑA running the cockpit, ran to Los Arcos, where Russell Pangle and Sterling Pangle from Franklin, North Carolina, caught and released one approximately 100-pound Striped Marlin on ballyhoo and two 8- to 10-pound Roosterfish on caballito at Cerros de Arena.

David Hill, Gregory Allen, Harold McWilliams, Isabel Florido, Justin Ortho, and Michael McCans Jr., from Cabo San Lucas, chose the “MY WAY,” a 48-foot Viking, for a HALF-DAY TRIP with Captain Arturo and Mates Daniel and Josue. They caught and released four 80 to 100-pound Striped Marlin at the Lighthouse and Los Arcos using lures and bait.

"ADRIANA," a 28-foot Uniflite

Captain Bruce and Mate Velez took the “ADRIANA,” a 28-foot Uniflite, to the Cerra de Arena Spot, where Wayne Rogers from Driftwood, Texas, enjoyed excellent fishing conditions, catching and releasing two Striped Marlin weighing 100 to 120 pounds on bait, and one Wahoo weighing 45 pounds.

Curt Terrace and Mike Zakoor from Saint Petersburg, Florida, chartered the “VALERIE,” a35-foot Bertram, with Captain Roberto Sandez and Mate Salvador Flores, who took them to the San Bartolo Spot, where they caught and released two Striped Marlin weighing 80 and 100 pounds on dead caballito and one 20-pound Yellowfin Tuna on cuchi outside del Cerro.

"TRACY ANN," a 31-foot Bertram

Captain Orlando and Mate Super Mario, the crew on the “TRACY ANN,” a 31-foot Bertram, enjoyed meeting the Pucketts from Prineville, Oregon.
David, Lorraine, Mark, and Mason Puckett were eager anglers, and when they ran 30 miles to the 160 Spot, they were ready to fish. They caught one Dorado weighing around 25 pounds on bait, eight Yellowfin Tuna weighing up to 40 pounds on bait and feathers.

On the Panga Karma, a 24-footer run by Captain Victor Gutierrez, with Kevin Stafford from California, who was set to fish. They ran to Casita Blanca, where he caught four Sierra to 4 pounds on cuchi, four Roosterfish between 10 and 15 pounds on bait, and two Jack Crevalle around 20 pounds also on cuchi. The variety of fish made it a great day of fishing for Kevin.
