Pisces Sportfishing Report July 17-23
The week of July 17–23, 2026, offered outstanding sportfishing opportunities in the waters off Cabo San Lucas. Consistent favorable weather and sea conditions fueled excellent offshore action. Anglers enjoyed mostly clear skies, calm seas, light winds, and warm water temperatures ranging from 79°F to 85°F, creating ideal conditions for recreational boating and sportfishing. Throughout the week, the Pisces fleet reported a diverse range of catches, including Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Shark, and other pelagic species, with successful outings recorded across renowned fishing grounds such as Herradura, Palos Herradura, Curry, the 210 Spot, Faro, and the 95 Spot. The combination of exceptional weather, experienced crews, and active fishing grounds resulted in a memorable week for anglers from across the United States and Mexico.
Marine weather conditions were exceptionally favorable on Friday, July 17, 2026, with clear skies, calm seas, and light winds averaging 3 mph, while wave heights stayed between 4 and 5 feet. Water temperatures were in the low 82s, and air temperatures were warm to hot, reaching 98°F. Overall, clear weather, mild sea conditions, and warm water temperatures provided ideal conditions for offshore activities.
Aboard the sportfishing boat, the “Yahoo,” captained by Jose Escamilla and Marcos, enjoyed a productive day at the Herradura fishing grounds with anglers Alex Smith and Christopher Torres, from Santa Maria, California, landing and releasing one Striped Marlin weighing between 90 and 100 pounds on a caballito, along with one Yellowfin Tuna weighing between 60 and 70 pounds, also caught using bait during the offshore outing. The trip showcased quality game fish action in the area.
Skies remained clear Saturday, July 18, 2026, with calm seas providing excellent boating and fishing conditions. Accompanied by light winds of approximately 10 mph, wave heights reached from 4 to 5 feet. Water temperatures were warm, ranging between 80°F and 84°F, while air temperatures were a hot 88 to 100°F. Overall, the clear weather, calm ocean, and warm temperatures created comfortable fishing conditions for captains and their clients.
Aboard the 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, “Bill Collector 4,” operated by Jean Carlo and Erick, the fishing trip with anglers including Diego Villarreal, Francisco Esquivel, Luis Vazquez, Marco Rodriguez, Ricardo Sanchez, and Ruben Villarreal produced a successful catch at 20 miles offshore. The group landed and released one Blue Marlin weighing about 220 pounds on ballyhoo, and they released one Sailfish estimated at 80 to 90 pounds on ballyhoo at the same offshore location. Sea and weather conditions contributed to a productive day on the water.
Aboard the 31-foot Bertram, “Ruthless,” with Captain Beto Lira and Mate, anglers enjoyed a productive day of fishing in the Palos Herradura area. Angler Thomas Miller of Victoria, Texas, landed three Yellowfin Tuna weighing approximately 15, 20, and 76 pounds, caught on a combination of lures and bait. He also released one Sailfish estimated at 70 to 80 pounds, caught on a cocinero in the same fishing grounds. The trip showcased the excellent fishing opportunities available in the Palos Herradura region. The day’s catch, highlighted by multiple Yellowfin Tuna and a Sailfish, made for a memorable and rewarding experience on the water.
Sunday, July 19, 2026 — Weather and marine conditions are expected to be highly favorable, with clear skies, calm seas, and light winds averaging 6 mph. Wave heights were forecast at 4 to 5 feet, while water temperatures range from 79°F to 82°F, providing warm and comfortable conditions for boating, fishing, and other marine activities. Air temperatures were expected to reach between 86°F and 98°F, creating hot daytime conditions. Overall, the combination of clear weather, calm waters, and warm temperatures should result in excellent conditions for outdoor and coastal recreation.
Captain Abel and Mate Ninja running the 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, “Bill Collector 2,” reported a productive day targeting Yellowfin Tuna. The angler, Diego Acevedo from Chula Vista, California, caught Yellowfin Tuna ranging from 15 to 69 pounds, using the Kite and bait fishing technique at the Herradura fishing grounds.
Onboard the 2018 37-foot Viking Billfish vessel “BBII,” anglers Case Freytag, Chad Freytag, and Reed Freytag of Austin, Texas, United States, participated in an offshore fishing excursion led by Gil, Hector, and Lalo. The trip targeted Yellowfin Tuna, with two fish landed, weighing approximately 45–90 pounds each. Fishing operations were conducted using a kite fishing technique at a location approximately 34 miles offshore, specifically at the AL 140 Spot. The outing resulted in a productive and successful day on the water, highlighted by quality Yellowfin Tuna catches under favorable offshore fishing conditions.
On Monday, July 20, 2026, weather and marine conditions were highly favorable. Clear skies, calm seas, and light winds averaging 4 mph with wave heights ranging between 4 and 5 feet created generally stable conditions. Water temperatures were warm, around 84°F, while air temperatures reached a hot 88°F to 99°F. Overall, the combination of clear weather, warm temperatures, and calm water.
The 42-foot Cabo Flybridge “HOT ROD,” with Captain Erick Orozco and Mate Jose Ramiro Ramirez, enjoyed a productive day fishing near the Cerro and Faro areas. The fishing party included Aston Jorgensen, Blake Tucker, Bradford Tucker, Dallin Mear, Jonah Bradshaw, Roan Jorgensen, Ryan Jorgensen, and Stephen Tucker, from Mesa, Arizona, who released one Sailfish estimated at 70 to 80 pounds, caught on a live caballito, and one Wahoo weighing approximately 60 pounds, landed on a lure outside the Cerro and Faro grounds.
Christopher Cooper, Cooper McLane, Elise Cooper, Erin McLane, Ken Herzbrun, Lily McLane, and Shaun McLane from California chartered the 66-foot Viking, “Friday Bank,” with Captain Alex at the Helm, and Mates Saul and Beto running the cockpit. They enjoyed a productive day about 25 miles from the 210 Spot. The group successfully landed one Striped Marlin estimated at 100 to 120 pounds while fishing with Curry. They also caught six Yellowfin Tuna ranging from 15 to 50 pounds on bait in that same area.
Weather conditions were clear on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, providing excellent visibility and favorable conditions. Seas remained calm, with wave heights ranging from 4 to 5 feet. Winds were light, averaging about 2 mph, contributing to a generally smooth water surface. Temperatures ranged from 80 to 82°F, creating warm, comfortable conditions for boating.
The 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, “BILL COLLECTOR 4,” run by Captain Jean Carlo and Mate Erick, completed a successful offshore fishing excursion about 27 miles out on the 210 Spot. The trip produced a diverse and impressive catch. The fishing party included Heather McGuire, John Harz, John Hays, Mathew Hart, Stacey Snead, and Steven Tackett, all from Plainfield, Indiana. Their catch included one Hammerhead Shark estimated to weigh between 190 and 200 pounds, caught on a caballito; one Striped Marlin weighing around 100 to 120 pounds, caught and released on a ballyhoo; and four Yellowfin Tuna ranging from 20 to 40 pounds, caught on curry.
Aboard the 28-foot Uniflite “Andrea,” anglers Kinleigh Quam, Paige Hoffmann, and Rich Hoffmann enjoyed a successful fishing excursion with Captain Chuy Romero and Mate Super Mario. During the trip, the group landed and released three Striped Marlin, measuring approximately 90, 100, and 110 pounds, using caballito as bait. They also caught and released one Silky Shark weighing approximately 60 pounds.
On Wednesday, July 22, 2026, Clear skies prevailed throughout the day, and calm seas provided comfortable boating conditions. Wave heights ranged from 4 to 5 feet, with winds averaging 11 mph. Water temperatures remained warm, between 80 and 82°F.
Cooper McLane, Erin McLane, Ken Herzbrun, Shaun McLane, and Zac McLane from California spent the day offshore with Captain Fernando and Mate Carlos Carrillo aboard the 31-foot Bertram, “Tracy Ann.” Their efforts were rewarded with an impressive 84-pound Yellowfin Tuna, caught on a lure at the Herradura Site.
Fishing aboard the 28-foot Uniflite “Andrea,” Gregg Thatcher and Wendy Ramos joined Captain Chuy Romero and Super Mario for a day of offshore action. The anglers hooked and landed a Wahoo estimated at 25 to 30 pounds while trolling a Rapala lure in the Herradura area. The hard-fighting fish proved to be the highlight of the trip.
On Thursday, July 23, 2026, weather and water conditions were favorable, with clear skies throughout the day. Sea conditions remained calm, with waves 4 to 5 feet high and light winds of about 3 mph. Water temperatures ranged from 82 to 85°F. Air temperatures were significantly higher, ranging from 90 to 101°F.
Brett Hagraves and Helga Lockwood, from Houston, Texas, chartered the 28-foot Uniflite, the “ANDREA,” with Captain Chuy Romero and Mate Mario, who led them on a successful fishing excursion. The anglers caught a 61-pound Yellowfin Tuna, using caballito at the 95 Spot.
The 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, “Bill Collector 4,” operated by Captain Jean Carlo, with Mates Eric and Luis, was on a highly productive offshore fishing excursion. Approximately 10 miles offshore from the Lighthouse (Faro), anglers Ari Roedel, Junior, and Benjamin Netto Roedel landed and released one Sailfish weighing between 70 and 80 pounds on ballyhoo. The trip also yielded four Yellowfin Tuna weighing between 30 and 50 pounds, caught using a Kite and bait technique in the same area.
As another week ends, the Pisces fleet continues to prove why Cabo San Lucas remains one of the world’s premier sportfishing destinations. The period of July 17–23, 2026 showcased a remarkable variety of catches, highlighted by impressive Striped Marlin encounters, quality Yellowfin Tuna action, Sailfish releases, and several notable Wahoo and Shark catches.
Consistently calm conditions allowed anglers to fully enjoy their offshore adventures while captains and crews delivered outstanding service and results. With warm water temperatures, abundant marine life, and favorable forecasts continuing into the season, the outlook for sportfishing in the coming weeks is still exceptionally promising.
