Pisces Sportfishing Report July 24-30
On the last Friday of July, classic Cabo summer conditions brought clear skies and glassy, calm seas that stretched across the many fishing grounds. A steady 4 to 5-foot swell rolled beneath light 7-mph winds, creating a comfortable surface for long runs and midday bait work. Water temperatures held between 82 and 85°F, a warm, stable band that kept life scattered across the banks and color lines. By afternoon, the heat intensified, pushing air temps from 90 to 102°F, sharpening the sun and slowing the breeze, leaving visibility high and the ocean cooperative for those willing to grind through the heat.
Aboard the “Valerie,” a 35-foot Bertram, Capt. Roberto Sández and Mate Salvador Flores reported a productive outing with steady action on both tuna and billfish. Anglers Matt Short and Sarah McFarland, visiting from Boerne, Texas, caught three Yellowfin Tuna weighing 20 to 94.5 pounds on curry and palo near the 95 Spot, where scattered surface life kept the area active throughout the morning. Their day was further highlighted by the release of a Sailfish in the 60- to 70-pound class after it struck a single caballito in the same zone.
A strong summer rhythm carried through aboard the 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, “Knot Workin,” where Captain Abraham and Mate Cesar guided their California anglers, CJ Russell, Daniel Dorfman, Hudson Russell, Larry Dorman, and William Dorfman, into a steady run of tuna along the Herradura Site. Working a mix of curry-rigged bait and Kite presentations, the anglers produced eight Yellowfin Tuna weighing 20 to 70 pounds. The team rounded out a disciplined day offshore, marked by consistent strikes and smooth coordination from cockpit to rail.
On Saturday, July 25, 2026, under clear skies and calm seas, marine weather remained highly favorable for boating, fishing, and other offshore activities. Water temperatures were a warm 82°F to 86°F, and air temperatures ranged from 82°F to 89°F. Wave heights were 4 to 5 feet, with light to moderate winds, contributing to the overall calm conditions across the area. Mariners can expect a pleasant day on the water, though standard safety precautions and continued monitoring of local weather updates are always advised.
“TRACY ANN,” a 31-foot Bertram, captained by Fernando and Marcelo, enjoyed a productive day offshore. Aboard were anglers Chase Denis, Justin Denis, and Wayne Denis, who traveled from Washington. They caught and released two Blue Marlin, estimated at 100–120 pounds each, on caballito at the Herradura, and took one Yellowfin Tuna, weighing approximately 60 to 70 pounds, on curry, also at the Herradura. The trip was highlighted by excellent action and impressive catches.
Captain Gil and Mates Hector and Lalo aboard the “BBII” enjoyed an excellent day of offshore fishing with outstanding results. Anglers Blake Mitchell and Taylor Mitchell of Smithfield, North Carolina, landed nine tuna, ranging from 14 to 84 pounds, primarily on lures at the Iman. The highlight of the trip was a Blue Marlin, estimated at 200 pounds, caught and released using a combination of dead caballito and lures, also at the Iman. The Mitchells had an action-packed, memorable day on the water, highlighted by impressive catches and favorable fishing conditions.
Conditions were favorable on Sunday, July 26, 2026, with clear skies and moderate seas. Wave heights ranged from 7 to 8 feet, and winds were light to moderate, with periods ranging from 2 to 18 seconds. Water temperatures remained warm, between 85 and 88°F, while air temperatures were comfortable, ranging from 80 to 85°F. Overall, the combination of stable weather, warm temperatures, and comfortable sea conditions provided an ideal marine environment.
Ari Roedel, Jr., and a fishing party of eight additional anglers who chartered the 35-foot Cabo Flybridge “KNOT WORKIN,” captained by Abraham and Cesar, experienced productive offshore fishing conditions approximately 16 miles from the Lighthouse. The trip resulted in the catch of Yellowfin Tuna weighing 40 to 80 pounds, with Kite fishing (barrilete) proving an effective technique. The excellent fishing proved strong Yellowfin Tuna activity in the area.
Aboard the 42-foot Cabo Flybridge “CALIENTE,” operated by Captain Jaime G. and Silverio T., a party of one angler (the owner) enjoyed a productive offshore fishing excursion. The trip resulted in the catch of a 50-pound Yellowfin Tuna approximately 30 miles offshore at the area known as El Palo. Favorable fishing conditions, along with experienced guidance and skill, contributed to an outstanding day on the water and an excellent Yellowfin Tuna catch.

Tuesday, July 28, 2026, featured clear skies and moderate sea conditions. Wave heights ranged from 7 to 9 feet, and winds varied from 7 to 23 knots, creating moderate variability throughout the day. Water temperatures were between 86 and 87°F, and air temperatures ranged from 82°F to 90°F, providing clear visibility and warm conditions across the area.
Captain Bruce and Mate Ryan enjoyed a productive day aboard the 30-foot Bertram, “KARINA,” with guest Matthew James of San Antonio, Texas. Matthew James landed and released one Striped Marlin estimated at 90–100 pounds and caught one Dorado weighing approximately 20 to 25 pounds, using caballito bait at the San Jaime. He also caught one Wahoo estimated at 35 to 40 pounds, using a curry at the San Jaime Bank. The outing provided excellent action and a memorable offshore fishing experience.
Anglers Bret Hansen, Chad Grant, and Ted Marsella of Clovis, California, enjoyed an outstanding day of offshore fishing aboard the “BILL COLLECTOR 4,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, under the guidance of Captain Abel and Mate Ninja. The anglers landed five Yellowfin Tuna, ranging from 20 to 100 pounds. The catch was made using curry and Kite fishing techniques at the renowned 95 Spot, a productive fishing area known for attracting quality tuna. The outing delivered exciting action and impressive catches.
Weather and sea conditions were favorable on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, with clear skies and calm seas throughout the day. Wave heights averaged about 7 feet, and water temperatures ranged from 86°F to 87°F. Air temperatures stayed warm, fluctuating between 84°F and 90°F. Winds ranged from 7 to 26 knots, providing generally stable conditions with periods of moderate breeze. Overall, the day offered excellent visibility and suitable conditions for offshore maritime and fishing activities.
The 31-foot Bertram “REBECCA,” captained by Jose Ramon and assisted by Alucano and Marcelo D., enjoyed an offshore fishing trip with anglers Debbie Rorison, Erin Baas, Jeff Rorison, Jonathan Baas, and Josh Baas from California, who landed and released one Sailfish, estimated at 70–80 pounds, using a curry about 35 miles offshore at the 180 Spot. They also caught three Yellowfin Tuna, ranging from 60–70 pounds, taken on curry about 35 miles offshore. The excellent catch highlighted productive fishing conditions and provided the anglers with an exciting day on the water.
The Ashby family, including Adelaide Ashby, Andy Ashby, Colton Ashby, Gibson Ashby, and Gina Ashby of Mapleton, Utah, took part in an offshore fishing trip to the Golden Gate Bank aboard the 31-foot Bertram, “RUTHLESS,” with Captain Raul and Mate Jorge V. The Ashby family made an impressive catch that included two Yellowfin Tuna weighing approximately 75 to 80 pounds each, using palo, curry, and lures and released one Sailfish weighing between 50 and 60 pounds, caught on a caballito at the Golden Gate. This fishing adventure showed excellent angling conditions and skilled teamwork, resulting in an unforgettable day on the water. The Ashby family enjoyed a gratifying sportfishing trip, creating lasting memories during their visit.
Weather was favorable for anglers and boaters on Thursday, July 30, 2026, with clear skies throughout the day. Seas were calm, with wave heights of 4 to 5 feet and light winds holding steady at 4 mph. Water temperatures were a warm 84°F to 85°F, while air temperatures remained hot, fluctuating between 87°F and 96°F. Overall, clear skies, light winds, and very warm temperatures combined to create pleasant conditions on the water.
A 29-foot Blackfin, the “El Cazador,” with Captain Carmelo and Mate Luis, ran an offshore fishing trip at Herradura, chartered by Bobby Chauvin and including anglers Danny Quirk, Kerri Carroll, and Megali Quirk, all from Colorado Springs, Colorado. They landed a total of eight Yellowfin Tuna, ranging from 25 to 40 pounds. Fishing techniques included Kite fishing and tuna lures.
The highlight of the trip aboard the 31-foot Bertram, “La Brisa,” with Captain Ray Winkler and Mate Jesus Winkler was the catch of one Yellowfin Tuna weighing approximately 80 pounds, taken on bait at the San Jaime by anglers Chad Ranstrom, James Ranstrom, and Lucas Ranstrom. In addition, the Ranstrom family landed and released one Sailfish estimated to weigh between 90 and 100 pounds on a lure in the Pedregal area.
The final week of July delivered another strong showing for Cabo San Lucas anglers, with warm blue water, favorable weather windows, and consistent action across many of the region’s most productive offshore grounds. Yellowfin Tuna remained the primary draw, with catches reported from the 95 Spot, Herradura, Iman, Golden Gate, El Palo, and San Jaime, while Sailfish, Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, Dorado, and Wahoo added diversity to the catch reports. Despite a port closure on Monday, crews took full advantage of the remaining fishing days, producing impressive results aboard the Pisces fleet. As summer conditions continue to settle across the southern Baja Peninsula, anglers can expect warm water, abundant bait, and continued opportunities for quality offshore action in the weeks ahead.
