“Lines Tight, Spirits High: A Week with the Pisces Fleet”

Pisces Fleet Weekly update from AUGUST 22-28, 2025 the Pisces Fleet delivered an impressive 88.24% catch success rate. Here’s a snapshot of the action:

Billfish: 60.78% — including Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, and Sailfish
Tuna: 37.25% — Yellowfin Tuna dominated the scene, with one reaching 177-pounds
Dorado: 17.65% — vibrant and plentiful, with several bulls over 40 pounds
Other Species: 7.92% — including Wahoo, Sierra Mackerel, Triggerfish, and even Silky Sharks

The action this week wasn’t limited to any single boat or location; instead, the fleet’s captains and crews showed their expertise across a variety of prime fishing spots, from Herradura Bank to the famed 95 and 1150 Spots. Guests hailed from all corners of North America and even British Columbia—bringing with them anticipation, camaraderie, and enthusiasm.

The exciting tales of Wahoo, Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna, Striped Marlin, and Sailfish catches filled the air, each catch more thrilling than the last. Whether it was the chase for Marlin on live bait or the lure of Dorado with flying fish, each group of anglers left with not only impressive catches but also lasting memories of their time with the Pisces Fleet Captains and crews. They held within them the potential for new stories, new friendships, and new memories to cherish for a lifetime.

 On a HALF-DAY TRIP on the "FRIDAY BANK," the 66-foot Viking, Captain Alex and Mates Saul and Roberto, and clients, Bret Boswell, Eric Schaefer, JP DeStefano, Matthew Mills, and Randy Wake, ran to the Herradura Bank

   On a HALF-DAY TRIP on the “FRIDAY BANK,” the 66-foot Viking, Captain Alex and Mates Saul and Roberto, and clients, Bret Boswell, Eric Schaefer, JP DeStefano, Matthew Mills, and Randy Wake, ran to the Herradura Bank. Despite the short duration, the anglers managed to catch two 12-pound Dorado on Ballyhoo. The real highlight was a 45-pound Wahoo they caught on a caballito. Returning to the dock, pleased with their successful day, they left Cabo with huge smiles on their faces, a testament to the fleet’s efficiency and client satisfaction.

Captain Rosendo Gomez and Mate Carlos Santos on the “TIBURON,” a 31-foot Bertram, went to their favorite Marlin site, the 1150 Spot. It was there that the anglers from Red Oak, Texas —Danny Wisdom, James Kramer, Jennifer Wisdom, and Vanessa Kramer — caught and released a 70-pound Striped Marlin on caballito. Then, moving to the 95 Spot, they used another caballito to catch and release a beautiful 60-pound Sailfish, also on a caballito.

 Californians Gary Pack, Kelley Hassian, Paul Besso, Rod Pack, Wesley Heryford, and William McFarland chartered the "BBII," a 37-foot Viking Billfish 2018,

Captain Abel and Mate Jose Luis, who operate the "RIPPER," a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, had guests Griffin King and Kirsten Parks fishing with them on Friday.

Gibbons caught and released one 100-pound Striped Marlin on a cuchi, one Yellowfin Tuna on a lure, and two Wahoo weighing 30 and 52 pounds on lures, all within 22 miles of the 180 Spot.

The “BILL COLLECTOR II,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, with Captain Juan C. Lopez at the Helm and Mate JC Martinez running the cockpit, had Gibbons Cornwell, from Vaughn, Montana, as the solo angler. Gibbons caught and released one 100-pound Striped Marlin on a cuchi, one Yellowfin Tuna on a lure, and two Wahoo weighing 30 and 52 pounds on lures, all within 22 miles of the 180 Spot. What a day he experienced, and he believed it was due to the knowledge and skill of Captain Juan and Mate Martinez.

Captain Fernando Noyola and Mate Marcelo manage the “ANDREA,” a 28-foot Uniflite, and a couple of Texas anglers, Andrew Holland and Lance Hancock, chose the “ANDREA” to fish from. They caught and released a 120-pound Striped Marlin on bait, and were happy with the three Yellowfin Tuna, weighing from 20 to 60 pounds, that they caught on bait and lures outside the 95 Spot. All in all, they were pleased with their successful day, whether they were battling their sizable Striped Marlin or reeling in their Yellowfin Tuna; each battle was a dance that added to their experience for future encounters.

The angler caught and released a 100-pound Striped Marlin on a Petrolero lure, three Dorado—one weighing 20 pounds, one weighing 40 pounds, and one weighing 42 pounds on caballito—and two yellowfin tuna on bait outside the 95 Spot. Captain Beto ensured that every hookup was a significant one.

From Texas, Jimmy Nolan, and Randall Fontenot chartered the “VALERIE,” a 35-foot Bertram, with Captain Orlando and Mate Salvador Flores. The Captain navigated around and through the 1150 Spot until the anglers caught and released two 120-pound Striped Marlin on caballito, two Dorado, one that weighed 30 pounds on a dead caballito, and one that weighed 45 pounds on a live caballito. They caught and released one 80-pound Sailfish on a lure, all taken at the 1150 Spot. This was a day that the Texas anglers would celebrate and remember for the remainder of their lives.

This time, he caught and released a 100-pound Striped Marlin on a Petrolero Lure, three Dorado to 42 pounds on caballito, and two Yellowfin Tuna to 22 pounds, all outside the 95 Spot. Mr Wu is quite an angler, but he gave credit to his Captain and mate.

Matthew Ristick and Steve Nicholas from Nevada chose the “ANDREA,” a 28-foot Uniflite, with Captain Fernando Noyola and Mate Marcelo as their fishing vessel on Sunday. They fought two Yellowfin Tuna, one weighing 25 pounds and one weighing 30 poundsThey caught them with the Kite at the 1150 Spot—a new experience for them … and a successful day they were pleased with.

Monday, August 25, 2025, Clear Skies:, Seas: Calm, Wave Ht.: 5-6 FT, WIND 1 MPH, Water Temp: 88 F, Air Temp: 85-92 F

They caught three 20-pound Yellowfin Tuna on bait and Kite, and they caught and released a 140-pound Striped Marlin on a dead bait 20 miles to the south of Cabo.

“EL CAZADOR,” a 29-foot Black Fin, run by Captain Carmelo and Mate Brian, welcomed aboard their California anglers, Alex Dimitrakopoulos, Ian Tracy, and Philip Dimitrakopoulos. They caught three 20-pound Yellowfin Tuna on bait and Kite, and they caught and released a 140-pound Striped Marlin on a dead bait 20 miles to the south of Cabo.

On the "RIPPER," a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, with Captain Abel at the Helm and Mate Jose Luis overseeing the cockpit, had clients from Houston, Texas, on Board.

Their anglers, Blake Voung, Brittaney Hoangle, Colby Voung, Lisa Voung, Phong Vuong, and Russell Crandall caught one Dorado on a lure at the Lighthouse. Then, moving outside Los Arcos, they caught five Yellowfin Tuna, which they took on lures. Four of them weighed around 12 pounds, but the trophy-sized Yellowfin weighed 89 pounds. Their biggest trophy fish, however, was a Blue Marlin weighing around 280 to 300 pounds, which they caught on a green lure outside Los Arcos. These friends would definitely remember the fish they caught that day, but the day isn’t about the fish caught… It’s about the memories they made with their friends, and the Captain and Mate.

Andrew Hemingway, Emily Hemingway, James Sikis, and Kellie Hemingway, caught and released one 100-pound Striped Marlin on bait, one enviable 35-pound Dorado on Ballyhoo, and one gorgeous 60-pound Sailfish on bait, all at the 95 Spot.

 On the “LA BRISA,” a 31-foot Bertram, with Captain Julio and Mate Jesus Winkler, the group from Kingwood, Texas, Andrew Hemingway, Emily Hemingway, James Sikis, and Kellie Hemingway, caught and released one 100-pound Striped Marlin on bait, one enviable 35-pound Dorado on Ballyhoo, and one gorgeous 60-pound Sailfish on bait, all at the 95 Spot. The waters of Cabo remained steadfast, holding the potential for new fishing tales.

From Washington, Josh Kelly, Luke Kelly, and Skyles Kelly caught and released two 100-pound Striped Marlin on cocinero at the Herradura on the “RUTHLESS,” a 31-foot Bertram, with Captain Beto Lira and Mate Chuy Romero. They had several stories about the catching of these fish, the two that didn’t get away.

Blake Vuong, Colby Vuong, Gary Foster, Phong Vuong, Russell Crandall, and Sonya Gray, from Houston, Texas, along with the highly skilled Captain Hector and Mates Gil and Eduardo running the “BBII,” a 37-foot Viking Billfish 2018, ran to the 1150 Spot where they caught and released one 110-pound Striped Marlin on a caballito and one 177 pound Yellowfin Tuna on Ballyhoo inside the 1150 Spot, and released an 80 pound Sailfish on a purple lure outside the 1150 Spot. The unexpected thrill of reeling in one beautiful creature after another throughout the day added an exciting twist to the Texas anglers’ fishing adventure.

 a HALF-DAY TRIP for Alison Birney and Leslie Cohn from Hondo, Texas, who caught and released a 100-pound Striped Marlin on a dead caballito outside the 95 Spot.

The 31-foot Bertram, “REBECCA,” managed by Captain Jose Ramon Alucano and Mates Jose and Rosendo Gomez, ran a HALF-DAY TRIP for Alison Birney and Leslie Cohn from Hondo, Texas, who caught and released a 100-pound Striped Marlin on a dead caballito outside the 95 Spot.

Garrett Davis, Jake Kellam, Ryan Walker, and Stratton Mills, from Hineston, Louisiana, chartered the “ADRIANA,” a 28-foot Uniflite, run by Captain Frank and Mate Super Mario. They were happy they caught six Yellowfin Tuna in the 20-pound range on bait at the San Jaime Bank.
